Release Notes:

Version 1.50 October 26, 2009

  1. Added capability to use the Smartphone's internal GPS chip and modified menu to select various GPS startup options.

    Menu >> GPS Setup

    Option 1: Auto Bluetooth Selection

    • Automatically create a Bluetooth connection to an External GPS.
No Partnership (Pairing) need to be created prior.  No need to a select COM PORT, Internally uses COM0.

    • This mode was created because of Bluetooth Partnerships on Treo's smartphones.  Always had to delete partnership and create new one after GPS turned back on.  The Refresh of the connection didn't work properly.

    • On HP IPAQ's tested this mode will not work. User will get an Error.  "Cannot Auto Detect. Create Partnership!".  Create a Manual Bluetooth Pairing and will work fine.  On the IPAQ's you can do a reconnect and everything works fine.

    Option 2: Manual Bluetooth Pairing

    • Allows the user to select an External GPS connected to Bluetooth via a Partnership (Pairing).   User must select COM PORT that was specified as the Outgoing Port during partnership creation.

    • Works fine on IPAQs tested, but when the user turn off the External GPS the user must refresh / reconnect the connection when turned back on.

    • On Treo's Smartphones always had to delete the partnership and create new one after GPS turned back on.  The Refresh of the connection didn't work properly.  That is why we have the Auto Bluetooth Selection mode.

    Option 3: Use Internal GPS

    • Allows the user to connect to an Internal GPS chip within the Smartphone.  This works for HP IPAQs with a real internal GPS not a A/GPS (assisted).

NOTE: In the IPAQ user manual is stated that:  If your GPS application needs direct access to the GPS receiver, make sure no other applications are running, then set your GPS software to COM7.

So probably on other Smartphones with Internal GPS's we need to find out correct com port.

    • On the IPAQ need to go to Settings > System Tab > GPS Icon.

Programs Tab > GPS Program Port > None

Hardware Tab > GPS Hardware Port > COM7

      Hardware Tab> Baud Rate > 57600

Access Tab > Checked Manage GPS automatically

    • User must select the COM PORT that was specified in the Hardware Tab above.

Option 4: No GPS Available - Work Off-Line

    • Allows the user run BoonDocker Off-Line without a GPS Connected.
